Many of our patients are familiar with traditional chiropractic care.  Often, people have a few more questions about laser therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions About Laser Therapy

This week we’ll answer some of the more frequently asked questions about this safe, effective treatment modality.

Is laser therapy the same as surgery?

No.  The laser does not cut anything.  The laser diodes are placed in contact with your skin.  Then, the laser light penetrates the tissue and stimulates healing.  In summary, laser therapy is non-invasive.

Does laser therapy hurt?

No.  Most of our patients report feeling warmth coming from the laser diodes.  Since laser therapy does not involve piercing, cutting, or any other kind of invasive procedure, you should not feel discomfort from the laser during your treatment.

Does my insurance cover laser therapy?

If you are covered for chiropractic care, then you are covered for laser therapy.

The details of a person’s insurance coverage are confidential between that person and their insurance provider.  If you aren’t sure whether your insurance covers you for chiropractic care, we recommend that you contact your insurance provider.   You should also speak with your provider if you have any other questions about the confidential details of your insurance coverage.

Who can benefit from laser therapy?

Laser therapy treats a number of chronic and acute conditions.

Firstly, laser therapy is useful for many chronic conditions.  It alleviates the inflammation and pain associated with these conditions.

Laser therapy is also useful for acute conditions.  This is because it stimulates the cells to accelerate the healing process.

Laser therapy treats a number of chronic conditions.  They include rheumatoid arthritis, bone spurs, plantar fasciitis, osteoarthritis, chronic spinal problems, and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Some of the acute conditions laser therapy can help with include:  tendon and ligament tears, sports injuries, bruising, muscle strains, and wounds.

What if I’m not sure whether laser therapy can help me or not?

There is no need to worry about “getting it wrong.”  During your initial appointment, Dr. Sheppard will examine you and learn about your concerns.  From there he will be able to guide you to the treatment modalities which will be best for your needs.

It is always okay to inquire about laser therapy.  We will advise you if traditional chiropractic methods are a better fit for your needs.

In summary, we encourage you to be proactive with your health.
