Last week we answered some of the most frequently asked questions that new and prospective patients often ask us.  This week, we’ll be tackling four more!

Questions About What To Expect

Many patients want to know what to expect from their course of treatment.

Will chiropractic treatment hurt?

We endeavour to minimize patient discomfort as much as possible. Sometimes, in order to address an injury, patients may experience discomfort during or after treatment. In these situations, ignoring or neglecting the injury would lead to more pain over time. We will recommend after-care when appropriate to address this discomfort. We also encourage our patients to communicate with us if something is uncomfortable. Over time, as the injury heals, discomfort will lessen. Maintenance visits are often pleasant and patients will leave feeling renewed and refreshed.

Why is treatment consistency and frequency so important?

The natural healing process is gradual and takes time. Many injuries, aches and feelings of stiffness are the result of accumulated strain and require time to undo. You may feel some relief on your first treatment or two, but relief is not the same as complete healing. To fully recover and prevent future problems, always follow the full course of treatment recommended by your chiropractor.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments will depend on your individual needs. Your body and your concerns are unique; some people and some conditions require more treatment than others. Generally speaking, most people will progress from acute care (relieve pain and begin healing) to sub-acute (maintain and support healing) and finally maintenance (correct developing problems and promote overall wellness). Your chiropractor will make recommendations based on the nature of your concerns, your body’s response to treatment, and your overall needs.

What can I be doing at home to help with relief and healing?

Your chiropractor will recommend home care appropriate to your diagnosis. Most conditions can be relieved by the application of ice. We also sell BioFreeze, a topical pain relief. Your chiropractor may also recommend exercises to do at home.
