Did you know that there are different kinds of headaches?  Most headaches can be classified as one of the following three types.

Tension Headaches

Tension headaches feel like a tight band pressing against your head.  Sufferers feel mild to moderate pain on both sides of the head.  Tight neck and scalp muscles cause the discomfort and give it the name “tension” headache.  Stress, fatigue, noise or bright light can make it worse.

Cervicogenic Headache

You feel it in your head, but the cervicogenic headache originates in the cervical spine.  The normal cervical spine follows a natural curve.  Chiropractic care can help restore and maintain this curve.  The pain feels like a tension headache but may be accompanied by migraine symptoms.

Migraine Headaches

Migraines are thought to be caused by changes to the blood flow in the head.  They often start with pain in or around the eye and spread.  They can involve one or both sides of your head.  Migraines are often accompanied by symptoms such as nausea, visual aura, light sensitivity, loss of appetite, sensitivity to sound and/or smell, or even vomiting.

Chiropractic care is a proven, drug-free way to treat many kinds of headaches.  Instead of masking the discomfort with painkillers, you can choose to treat the problem at its source.  Your chiropractor will examine and assess you, make specific spinal adjustments based on your individual needs, and offer you advice to help prevent or minimize future headaches.
