Most people think of the chiropractor as a place you go if your back hurts.  That’s very sound advice.  What a lot of people don’t realize is that chiropractors treat the entire musculoskeletal system.  That’s a lot more than just your spine.

Is discomfort normal?

When I first started working at Sheppard Chiropractic and Laser Healing, I’d been suffering from a deep-seated shoulder ache for the better part of a year.

I’d found some methods of temporary relief, but sooner or later I knew I could expect that old familiar throbbing to start again, deep under my right shoulder blade, and usually in the middle of the night.  Hot pads, cold packs, and over-the-counter pain medication could help me get back to sleep.  But they didn’t make the problem go away.  I’d resigned myself to the understanding that I wasn’t getting any younger.  I was told that discomfort is normal.  But I wasn’t even 40.  Was it just going to get worse?

I thought I’d be living with the sore shoulder for the rest of my life.

Pain is not inevitable

When I started working for Sheppard Chiropractic and Laser Healing, I had my first chiropractic treatment.  I mentioned that my shoulder could be uncomfortable.

After the first treatment I noticed a change for the better.  After six treatments, I was shocked at the range of motion in the shoulder.  I could also sleep through the night.  I hadn’t even realized how much functionality I had lost over the preceding months.  I’d come to believe that my limited range of motion was “normal.”  Suddenly I had full movement back again.

If I hadn’t started working for Sheppard Chiropractic and Laser Healing, I might have gone years—maybe decades—assuming my pain was “normal.”

If you have an ache, a pain, a strain or a limited range of motion right now, it doesn’t need to be with you for life.
