It’s surprising how easy it can be to develop bad habits.   Years of such habits result in discomfort or injury over time.

The good news is it’s never too late to make some changes for the better.  These ten tips will help prevent problems down the road.

And if you’re feeling aches and pains from the accumulated strains of bad habits, your chiropractor can help.

Following these ten simple tips can help to keep your back healthy.

Stretch your legs and back after each hour of sitting.  Give your body a rest–it will keep your back healthy.

Exercise regularly.  Our bodies are designed to move.  Therefore, regular exercise helps us feel better, physically and emotionally.

Follow a healthy diet.  Good nutrition gives your body the “building blocks” it needs to maintain your bones, joints, muscles, and everything else.

Maintain good posture.  In addition, poor posture puts strains on your back, neck, and joints.

Stretch your spine before and after sports.  Firstly, proper warm-ups prevent injury.  Also, warm-ups may improve your athletic performance.

Don’t overload your backpack or shoulder bag.  Carrying around excessive weight day after day adds up over time.  In conclusion, when you go out, take only what you need.

Never cradle the phone between your neck and shoulder.  Also, if your job requires you to use your hands while on the phone, invest in a headset.

Sleep on your back or side, never on your stomach.

Invest in a good desk chair, living room chair, pillow, and mattress.  The amount of time you spend in bed, at your desk, and relaxing in your living room makes the investment worthwhile.

Have regular spinal checkups.  Also, follow your chiropractor’s recommendations for maintenance care.
