Many people find back-to-school season to be a particularly stressful time of year.  Summer is marked by sleeping in, relaxed schedules and family leisure time.  Re-establishing schedules and routines is often difficult.  We’re sharing 3 back to school tips to make this season a little easier.

Teach children time management

Designate a calendar or make a planner where kids can write down important dates.  Examples include due dates for projects, dates for tests, after-school events, and other important dates and times.  A calendar or planner used by the whole family will make sure that everyone is aware of what day your son’s science project is due, or what night your daughter’s soccer team is meeting for practice.  This will let you plan in advance, and will also teach your kids how to manage their time by prioritizing urgent tasks.

Help your kids perform at their best

The second of our back to school tips is a reminder that regular chiropractic care keeps kids’ bodies at their best.  It’s better to address small issues before they develop into big problems.  Optimizing your kids’ nervous systems helps them to do better in school, just as it helps adults do better at work and when playing sports.

Children’s injuries are often minimized as “growing pains.”  Perhaps this is due to a belief that kids are more resilient than adults.  But kids are also usually more active than adults.  Childhood injury can cause problems down the road.  Pain is always distracting.  And kids’ bodies, just like adults’, go out of alignment from the wear and tear of daily living.

Chiropractic care also helps to relieve stress for people of all ages.

If you or your partner have a health insurance plan, your kids may also be eligible for coverage.  If you’re not sure, contact your plan provider for more information.

Make appointments before the school year begins

The third of our back to school tips is to take advantage of the remaining summer days to catch up on important appointments.  If your children haven’t had health care appointments over the summer–dentists, family doctors, optometrists, etc.–you may want to take advantage of the opportunity to schedule these appointments at a time when the kids won’t miss classes.

Have we seen your children this summer?  If not, contact Sheppard Chiropractic Centre at (506) 635-8182 or (506) 847-7172 to schedule an appointment for your kids.  If they’ve never been to a chiropractor before, don’t worry!  We are accepting new patients.  We would be pleased to assist your children.  Just let our helpful reception staff know that your kids are about to have their first visit.
