Did you know that there are good habits that can help to keep your back healthy?

There are also bad habits that can cause damage long-term.

It’s time to cultivate the good habits and break the bad habits!

6 tips to help you avoid bad habits—and start healthy habits

Maintain good posture.  Slumping, slouching and prolonged leaning place stresses on your body that accumulate over time.

Sleep on your back or side, not on your stomach.  Good posture is just as important asleep as awake.

Never cradle the phone between your neck and your shoulder.  If you need to use your hands while you’re on the phone, invest in a headset.

Don’t overload your messenger bag, purse, or backpack.  Overloaded bags place strain on your back.  Stop carting around heavy stuff you don’t need.  Wear backpacks properly, using both straps, centering the weight.

Warm up and cool down before and after physical activity.  Stretching and warming up prepare your body for exercise.

Have regular spinal checkups.  Your chiropractor can support your body through regular wear and tear by making sure your spine is in alignment and your musculo-skeletal system is the healthiest it can be.  Follow your chiropractor’s recommendation for maintenance care.

If you’re due for maintenance care and you don’t have your next appointment scheduled, contact Sheppard Chiropractic Centre at (506) 635-8182 or (506) 847-7172 today.
