Doc is the official mascot of Sheppard Chiropractic Centre. He is a kind and gentle English Bulldog. Doc lives with Dr Sheppard and spends his days rearranging the couch cushions and patrolling the kitchen to keep an eye on the food situation.
Pets are often good for a laugh. But did you know that they are also good for your health?
Petting an animal is a proven method of reducing stress.
Another way to reduce stress is to enjoy a good chuckle. Many animals are clowns at heart! Their antics help us to smile, even in difficult times.
A loving companion
Furthermore, having a pet can help to ease feelings of loneliness. Companion animals ensure that you are never all by yourself in your home.
Many people say that their pets have been crucial to their mental health. They feel motivated to make sure their pets are properly cared for. These people feel as though they are doing something important when they meet the needs of animals who depend on them. They need to take care of themselves so that they can take care of their pets.
Remember that a pet is a big responsibility and a life-long commitment.
Before you get a pet, research what that pet needs to live its best life. Make sure you can deliver its physical, mental and social needs.
For example, dogs generally require daily exercise with you. Rats are social and need the companionship of their own kind. Fish might need a bigger tank than you’d think in order to thrive. Cats live safer lives when they are indoor-only. Plus, they can’t hunt birds and other native wildlife when they’re inside.
If you are able to meet those needs, a pet (or two!) can greatly enhance wellness, both for them and for you!
Another way to enhance your wellness is to see your chiropractor regularly. If it’s been a while since your last appointment, it’s time to call Sheppard Chiropractic Centre at (506) 847-7172. We are accepting new patients and always happy to see our regular clients!
