Some jobs are very physically demanding.  Others involve less activity, but still require you to be on your feet all day.  People who work these jobs experience different strains on their bodies than people in sedentary jobs.

Your chiropractor can help.

Standing Jobs

If you stand for most of the day, take mini-breaks and move around a bit.

To begin, do some stretches:  bending side to side, stretching your arms overhead, shaking out your legs and arms, etc.

Secondly, wear comfortable shoes that support your ankles and feet.  Supportive shoes are an effective way to protect against foot pain.

If your feet hurt, laser therapy may help.

Thirdly, make appointments for regular chiropractic maintenance.  Chiropractic care will help to keep your body at its best.

Do you have to stand in the same place at work?  If you can, stand with one foot slightly raised and resting on a rail, block, or whatever support is acceptable for your supervisor and/or workplace safety coordinator.  Switch feet regularly.

Physical Labour Jobs

If your job involves physical labour, always take 10 minutes to stretch before you begin your daily duties.  Try lunges, partial squats, toe push-ups and knee-to-chest stretches.  Ask your chiropractor for pointers!

Lifting heavy objects can cause injuries.  Position the object close to your body and use your knees, arm, and leg muscles to slowly lift the object.  Keep the load close to your body, keep your back straight, and avoid twisting your body while lifting.

If you need to move a heavy object sideways, pivot by moving your feet rather than twisting your back.

As with Standing Jobs, make sure you are wearing supportive footwear.  As well, use any other safety gear that your workplace requires.  Ensure that it is used properly so it will work the way it is supposed to.

If you experience a sprain, strain, or bruise, laser therapy can help.

Regular chiropractic maintenance care will keep you at your best at work.  Therefore, if you haven’t got your next appointment booked, call Sheppard Chiropractic Centre at (506) 635-8182 or (506) 847-7172.
