Many cases of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome are treated with surgery and heavy medication.  Many people would prefer to avoid unnecessary surgery.  And medication is not without side effects.  The good news is that if you catch the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome early, chiropractic care can treat it effectively and safely—with no need for surgery or drugs.

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is caused by pressure on the median nerve.  The median nerve runs through a passageway in your wrist called the “carpal tunnel.”  When the nerve becomes irritated or squeezed, carpal tunnel syndrome can result.

What are the symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Firstly, carpal tunnel syndrome can cause a tingling, “pins and needles” feeling in your thumb, index and middle finger.  It can also cause numbness, or a sensation like an electric shock.  The sensation can travel up your arm, even as far as your shoulder.  It can be strong enough to wake you from sleep.

You may also experience weakness in your hand.  This weakness can manifest as a tendency to drop things.  The numbness may also affect your ability to grasp and lift objects.

What should you do if you think you’re developing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Chiropractic care is an effective, drug-free method to ease the symptoms and pain of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.  If caught early, chiropractic care can provide long-term relief from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Chiropractic treatment can re-set bones to their proper position, alleviating problems in the wrist and fingers.  Laser therapy can relieve the inflammation and help the wrist to heal.

Your chiropractor can also make recommendations for your station at work, and/or your office at home, to reduce the risk of repetitive strain injuries.  For example, an ergonomically correct workstation can relieve the strains on your body.  Furthermore, your chiropractor can provide you with exercises for the wrist and hand that will assist in your recovery.
