Nobody wants to spend their time feeling bad.  But it’s very easy to make unwise choices, or fall into negative habits.  Feeling bad is how our bodies tell us that something is wrong.

Often we keep doing things we know we shouldn’t until we feel too bad to ignore our bodies any longer.  Or we realize one day that we’re in pain, sick, or just not experiencing the quality of life we want.

Once we get that “wake up call,” it’s often a long, hard slog to recover.

Clearly it’s a better choice to not hit “rock bottom” in the first place.  How do we do that?

By being proactive with our health.

Proactive choices today can save us from a lot of trouble tomorrow.

We have the ability to choose wellness.  Here are five ways to do that and be proactive with our health.

Eat healthy food

Your body relies on food for energy and nutrition.  Garbage in equals garbage out!  Fuel your body with nutritious food and reap the benefits.

Get enough quality sleep

Our bodies repair and rejuvenate themselves while we sleep.  Prioritize sleep – it is as important as eating.  Get good quality sleep by minimizing light sources in the bedroom, including cell phones, TVs and computers.  Avoid screens for an hour or two before bed.

Have regular chiropractic maintenance

Why go to the chiropractor when you aren’t in pain?  Regular chiropractic maintenance helps your body to function at its best.  By keeping your body in proper alignment, your chiropractor can treat ailments while they’re still minor—before you suffer the cumulative effects of untreated stresses.

Drink plenty of fresh water

By the time you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated.  Your cells need water to function at their best.  Remember that coffee, black tea, alcohol and pop deplete water from your body, and that juices are full of sugar.  Herbal teas are good, but fresh water is best.

Live an active lifestyle

Regular exercise is good for your heart and lungs.  It also keeps your muscles strong.  Find activities that you enjoy and make them a healthy habit.  Look for ways to incorporate physical activity into your life.

If you don’t already have your next maintenance appointment scheduled, it’s time to contact Sheppard Chiropractic Centre at (506) 635-8182 or (506) 847-7172.  We look forward to seeing you soon!
