Let’s say you are suffering from back pain, and you’ve been to a chiropractor for help.  Maybe you had an acute injury like whiplash or a fall.  Or maybe your pain is the result of years of accumulated stresses and strains.  Either way, chiropractic care has alleviated your discomfort.

Then your chiropractor will recommend some future appointments.  But you’re not in pain any more.  Why do you need to go?

There are two main reasons. Let’s look at both of them.

Just because it doesn’t hurt doesn’t mean it’s healed

Initial chiropractic care can alleviate discomfort.  Sometimes this happens quickly and sometimes it takes a little longer.

However, until an injury has fully healed, it’s liable to “flare up” again and cause pain.  Ongoing chiropractic care can ensure that the injury heals properly.

If you place stress on an injury that’s still healing, you’re more likely to injure it again.

Your chiropractor will recommend a treatment schedule to support your body’s needs.

Avoiding discomfort in the future

We often see patients with painful injuries who have never been to a chiropractor before.  This means that these people are not accustomed to routine musculo-skeletal care.

Chiropractic maintenance care helps to keep the body’s nervous system functioning at its best.

Regular “check ups” with your chiropractor can catch small problems before they become too painful to ignore.

Daily living places wear and tear on your body

Being active is good for your health but also increases the risk of “sports” type injuries like sprains.  Many of us work in jobs where we sit most of the day, causing unique stresses on our backs.

Modern life is stressful.  Chiropractic care helps to relieve stress.  It increases overall wellness.

Most people wouldn’t drive their car until it fell apart.  They take it to mechanics for routine maintenance.  Yet many people think nothing of stressing their bodies until they reach a crisis point.

This is why you don’t have to have an injury or be in pain before you choose to see a chiropractor.
