There’s an easy way to improve your health.  It’s simple, it’s free, and it provides many benefits.  Yet many people still don’t do it.

Consuming a minimum of eight glasses of fresh water each day can change your health for the better.

Drinking water regularly is a healthy habit

Water is free and convenient; most of us have safe drinking water in our own homes.  Reusable water bottles are environmentally friendly.  You can carry a water bottle around with you and refill it throughout the day.

If you don’t like the taste of your tap water, what should you do?  One option is to invest in a water filter system (like a Britta) and keep it in your fridge.  Similarly, if you like your water icy cold, a refillable pitcher (with or without the filter system) is a more environmentally friendly choice than filling your fridge with little plastic bottles.  It’s also significantly cheaper!

Herbal tea (tisane) is another way to add flavour to water without adding caffeine, calories, or (in many cases) artificial ingredients.  When you’re in the grocery store, read the label on the tea package to know what’s in it and help you choose.

Bottled water is best for emergencies.  If you’re travelling in an area without safe drinking water, you can buy bottled water to stay hydrated.  It’s also recommended to keep bottled water in your emergency kit, along with flashlights and batteries, non-perishable food and a can opener, a first aid kit, and your other emergency supplies.  Most of us are fortunate enough to have a reliable source of safe, free water in our own homes, making bottled water unnecessary for everyday use.

Many of us know to drink water in the summer when it’s hot and there’s a risk of heat stroke.  It’s easy to forget that it’s important to drink water regularly all year round.

Develop other healthy habits

We often hear about bad habits that can be detrimental to our health.  The good news is that it’s easy to develop good habits that improve our health.  Drinking water regularly is one of those good habits.  Once you’re used to filling up your water bottle and sipping from it throughout the day, it will become second nature.

Another healthy habit is seeing your chiropractor for routine chiropractic maintenance.  Bodies go out of alignment in the course of daily living.  Don’t wait until you’re in pain.  Regular “tune-ups” will keep you feeling your best.
