What is laser therapy?  Many people aren’t aware of the benefits of this treatment modality.  Today we’re addressing myths and providing facts.  We’ll also tell you what you need to know to benefit from this “tool” in Dr. Sheppard’s treatment repertoire.

What Laser Therapy ISN’T

It is not surgery.  Firstly, laser healing is non-invasive.  That means that the laser does not pierce the skin.

It is not painful.  You may feel warmth from the laser, but it is not uncomfortable.

It does not require any medication.  It is drug-free.  It works to heal the source of the discomfort rather than simply masking the symptoms.

What Laser Therapy IS

Laser therapy is a way to enhance the body’s natural healing processes.

The treatment is done while you make yourself comfortable seated in a chair.  A laser diode creates light that is placed in contact with the skin.  Then, photon energy penetrates the tissue.

Laser therapy is an effective way to treat a variety of conditions.  These conditions include musculoskeletal injuries, chronic and degenerative conditions, and plantar fasciitis.  Laser Healing is also an excellent way  to heal acute wounds, such as sports injuries.

Who should ask about laser therapy?

Laser therapy can treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • sports injuries
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • plantar fasciitis
  • ligament and tendon tears
  • rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
  • facet joint syndrome
  • bulging and herniated discs
  • rotator cuff injury
  • chondromalacia patella
  • bursitis and tendonitis
  • calcifications and bone spurs

Before your first laser treatment, Dr. Sheppard will meet with you for a brief examination and to discuss your concerns.  We will let you know if your concerns would be better treated by traditional chiropractic methods.  Similarly, some of our chiropractic patients have their treatment enhanced by laser therapy on the same day.  In summary, you don’t need to worry about “getting it wrong”—we are there to guide you!

If you’re curious about whether you’re a good candidate for laser therapy, call 847-7172 (Rothesay) or 635-8182 (Saint John).  We’d be happy to arrange a consultation with Dr. Jeff Sheppard to find out if laser treatment is a suitable option for you.

In conclusion, Sheppard Chiropractic Centre is proud to offer our clients this safe, non-invasive, drug-free, effective therapy.
